If we were truly honest we would admit we saw this coming a long time ago. Drill Now!!!! is only a temporary band aid ( but help none the less) compared to our long term needs. Fossil fuels are limited if not to our generation than to our children`s children. ??In the short and long run we need to be using what we have the most of like solar power, wind and deep sea turbines. It also behooves us to mention the ramifications of these different fuels on the atmosphere and the planetary system. Which fuels are most economical, safer for us and planet earth? We have the technology available, now let us use it to our best advantage. As for this presidential race on energy and economics and war, when our politicians at every level take a pay cut as many large corporations did demand of their employees in history to remain in business, then and only then will we remain solvent and we would experience that real change in this government for the people and by the people. Remember WE are the government, WE should act like it and demand change by all parties. We must not allow any of them to run on a platform of promises any more. We must demand real change and real accountability. My husband and I are suggesting we do a write in on our ballots requiring reviews of the spending practices at every level of government and demand immediate pay cuts at every level of government. Our government system did not fail us, Our votes did.

Hi Lynn and Jonet,

With all due respect, it’s not a band-aid at all. Opening offshore drill will have a minimal effect on oil prices and oil dependency, and have COMPLETELY ZERO effect in the short term, as it takes years to actually commission any rigs.
