Solar is not just for the rich and famous these days with all of the state rebates and 30% federal tax credit available. Not to mention all of the new low, up front cost financing now available. (See my Cash Poor, Solar Rich series of Posts.)

But it’s interesting to note how it’s not just Ed Begley, jr who has put solar panels on their homes. Recently, the Vatican announced that it had installed solar panels on one of their big meeting places. That’s right. The Pope has gone solar.

But beyond Ed and his Holiness, there are many, many other confirmed celebrities who have gone solar through BP Solar’s Solar Neighbor Program, which gives away a solar installation to low income people when a celebrity buys solar through BP. Here’s a list of all the solar celebrities so far:

  • Ed Begley, Jr.
  • Jim Carrey
  • Don Cheadle
  • John Densmore
  • Danny DeVito & Rhea Pearlman
  • Roland Emmerich
  • Will Ferrell
  • Jorja Fox
  • Ben Goldhirsch
  • Davis Guggenheim
  • Larry Hagman
  • Tom Hanks
  • Daryl Hannah
  • Buck Henry
  • Jack Johnson
  • Eric & Tania Idle
  • Scarlett Johansson
  • Anthony Kiedis
  • Wendie Malick
  • Matchbox 20
  • Barry Meyers
  • Edward Norton
  • Brad Pitt
  • Peter Reckell
  • Kevin Reilly
  • Carlos Santana
  • Naren Shankar
  • Alicia Silverstone
  • Rob Thomas
  • Robin Williams
  • Owen Wilson
  • Al Yankovic

I realize that celebrity endorsement won’t make anyone go out and buy solar. It has to make financial sense. But if you feel like solar could be right for you. You really have nothing to lose by getting a quote, which is always free. If you do, please drop a comment and let me know how it goes and what you decided to do.
